Description

One of the greatest moments of the 20th Century.

On July 16th 1969 Apollo 11 lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The purpose of the Apollo 11 mission was to land men on the lunar surface and to return them safely to Earth.

On board were astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, commander; Michael Collins, Command Module pilot; and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., Lunar Module pilot.

76 hours after launch, the spacecraft was inserted into lunar orbit. Armstrong and Aldrin entered the Lunar Module preparing for descent to the lunar surface. Twenty four hours later the two spacecraft were undocked and the Command and Service Modules separated from the Lunar Module.

On the 20th July 1969, after four days in Space, the now legendary astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the surface of the moon, uttering the unforgettable and now famous statement, ‘One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’

This momentous occasion of Neil Armstrong, shortly followed by Buzz Aldrin, setting foot on the ‘Sea of Tranquillity’ from the lunar module ‘Eagle’, was broadcast live to a staggering 600 million people around the world.

This ninety minute feature length ‘award-winning’ documentary, voiced by TV’s ‘Dr Who’, Tom Baker, is a fascinating and compelling insight into the story of Apollo 11 and man’s conquest of space and the race for the moon
